Statista’s chart shows that employment in certain U.S. occupations is projected to decline sharply by 2034, driven largely by automation, technology shifts, and changing business practices.
* Occupations in office and administrative support, production, sales and related, and in farming, fishing and forestry are among the groups expected to lose jobs over the coming decade. * Some of the most significant relative declines are projected for roles like word processors and typists (about –38 %), roof bolters, and telephone operators, though these are smaller occupations overall. * In absolute numbers, cashiers are estimated to lose the greatest number of jobs (hundreds of thousands), followed by large losses for office clerks and customer service representatives.
Overall, these projections suggest that many routine, administrative, and production‐oriented roles will face steep job losses over the next decade, underscoring the importance of adaptability, upskilling, and perhaps shifting toward roles less vulnerable to automation.
