Teacher shortages are a problem in every state, whether red or blue. It's great to see agreement. But is teacher pay the silver bullet? Something is causing new teachers to leave teaching rapidly after leaving teacher preparation programs. Are we really saying these new teachers weren't aware of current teacher pay? I am concerned that politicians are focused on teacher pay because passing a law increasing teacher pay is easy to do. It doesn't require much thought and it doesn't require reform. We need to understand the factors that are driving teachers away and redesign teaching to address those factors. In software, we have user experience research. In business, we have customer experience research. I'm thinking more and more that we need teacher experience research, coupled with a concerted effort to measure teacher experience factors and drive those factors in a positive direction. Something caused new teachers to choose teaching, and that something isn't there like they expected when they get into the classroom. If we don't fix that, I am not sure increased salary will do much. #teacherexperience #k12education #teaching https://lnkd.in/gW3ym9Et
