This is solid and mirrors advice I received early in my career. From my vantage point now, every overhead expense is intended to free up what at one point I did myself, and now may be necessary for scale. I say “may be” because I also know you have to constantly evaluate whether each experiment is working and justifies the expense. So this advice is about making sure the answer is always very clearly yes, it’s worth it, and as a result that person becomes indispensable as the company continue to grow, and it gives opportunities for the individual to grow their capabilities — if you can coach them through that growth — and elevate.
