I still find that almost nobody knows how much more they’re paying for delivered food.
Many restaurants and fast food joints have completely separate pricing in the menus they provide through delivery apps compared to their in-store menu prices.
Don’t believe me? Try it out the next time you’re at Chipotle. Bring up a delivery app and compare the menu prices to the prices you see on the physical board.
If you order off of a restaurant’s delivery menu, you are paying up to 40% higher menu prices even before we consider the fee and tip from the delivery service (DoorDash, UberEats) itself.
The main reason for this? Consumers already expect to pay more in total for the convenience of delivery, and while they assume that extra cost is for the delivery itself, consumers aren’t paying attention.
